Parish Mission - St. Mary of the Annunciation Mundelein, IL

What does it means to be a true disciple of Jesus? Lent is the perfect time to quiet ourselves, to listen to the voice of the shepherd, and to deepen our personal relationship with God. During this two night event, our speaker Kristen Bird will help us to tune into the voice of the shepherd, to become better disciples, and discern how each of us can best live out our unique calling to share the love of God with the world. Join the parish mission to renew your spirit and reunite as a blessed community of faith. All ages are welcome!

Observing Lent? Try a Team Approach

Accompaniment and Lent

The forty days of Lent can seem like a long time, especially if one is giving up a favorite food or video game. It's helpful to have a friend to keep us going. He or she can encourage us, challenge us, and pick us up if we falter. In fact, that kind of accompaniment - a holy friendship developed out of mutual love for one another and a desire to walk with one another into deeper relationship with Jesus - is the heart of evangelization and discipleship.

This year, consider finding an accompaniment partner and approaching Lent as a team. That doesn't mean you have to give up—or do—the same exact things, although that's a possibility. It does mean sharing your Lenten resolution(s) and asking for each other's prayers and active support.  People often find that they're much more likely to keep their resolutions when they hold themselves accountable to another person. Knowing that someone walks with us, even if it's not exactly the same path, can be a great comfort and motivator.

If you're thinking about Lenten resolutions, consider the traditional practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving (works of charity). Here are some ideas to get started.

Most Blessed Sacrament Holy Spirit Retreat

Renew yourself in the Holy Spirit

Who is the Holy Spirit?   What does the Holy Spirit do?   How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

Join Deacon Keith Strohm from the Archdiocese of Chicago and M3 Ministries and Kristin Bird of Burning Hearts Disciples as we explore these questions in a spirit-filled retreat. This retreat will explore the meaning and significance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It’s an introduction to the presence, peace and power of God that can be experienced daily.

Green Bay Discipleship Seminars

Diocese of Green Bay Discipleship Seminars

Burning Hearts Disciples is assisting the Diocese of Green Bay in continuing to deepening our friendship with Jesus Christ through Regional Discipleship Formation Seminars. These one-day seminars are designed to help key parish volunteer leaders and parish staff understand the challenges in forming disciples of Jesus Christ and the connection between evangelization, catechesis, parish life, and mission within the discipleship process.

Many parish leaders find that attending a single seminar or retreat day is only able to provide a brief overview of some of the key elements to discipleship and evangelization. Spending time reflecting, praying, and learning both individually and as a group will help ensure you take the concepts from theories and apply them in practice in your own life and in your parish.

Here you can find the handouts and resources used during the seminars as well as a list of resources we recommend for both individuals and groups to help you on your path toward missionary discipleship.

If you missed the Regional Seminars or are looking to continue the growth as a disciples you experienced during that day, we would be happy to come put on a seminar or follow up retreat for your parish leadership.
