Discovering Your Faith Story

discovering your faith story

Discovering Your Faith Story is an invitation for you to discover the ways that God has touched your life through your own personal history. Many of us are disposed to think that God intersecting in our lives is something unusual - a miraculous healing or a kind of supernatural energy that leaves us enraptured.  We imagine that religious experiences are something that happen to others - others who pray more often, live more morally, and are inspired by the Holy Spirit more often than we do.

Yet all of us have religious experiences - moments of reflection, prayer, hope, intuition, decision, doubt, joy.  These moments are indications of God working in our ordinary lives.  More than just a talk, Discovering Your Faith Story is an exercise that invites you to look back at your life and see patterns, events, threads, and institutions that have composed your experiences of God and leads you to a greater awareness of God in daily life.

Short Talk

This presentation can be done as a shorter talk (60-90 mins) that walks participants through the exercise at a quicker pace and provides handouts for them to complete reflections on their own time.  Suggestions are given on how to apply the insights gained.

Retreat Day

This presentation can also be offered as a longer retreat experience (4-6 hours).  The first half of the day is spent on personal prayer and reflection. Participants are given time to discover the elements of their own faith journey and discuss insights gained in small groups/partners.  The second half of the retreat includes presentations and workshop time equipping participants to become more confident in sharing their faith story with others.

  • "Very practical steps on how to walk with others and to see the bigger picture..."

The Accompaniment course hit me right-on with very practical steps on how to walk with others and to see the bigger picture (something I have been in need of) of where I am on my own journey as well as how to help my family and parish. The stressing of a focus on Jesus, not being silent, praying with people now, healing, the importance of stories & listening, and many other items were also a great capstone.

I have been “drinking out of firehouse” of our Catholic Faith since having an experience of the love of Jesus in January of this year.  My wife had experienced a similar encounter at that time as well, which has been great has been a blessing to walk together. We have experienced many small (& a few large) transformations over the last 8-months and the accompaniment training has been one more step on this journey.

  • "Material I will go back to again and again"

This was the first formation event that I have attended, and I fully plan on attending the rest of the series. This was material that I will go back to again and again.  Kristin was an excellent speaker - I appreciated her directness, and also her including group discussion and prayer times.  I am looking forward the next session!

  • "The most informative, formational, and nourishing event hosted by the Archdiocese."

I felt the topic was very timely as we search for new understandings and the HOW of applying evangelization skills to our ministry.  It was the most informative, formational, and nourishing event I have been to hosted by the Arch[diocese] so far.  I plan to implement this immediately by focusing more on providing encounters with Jesus, not just providing programs, and spending more time and effort accompanying individuals in my parish, especially my youth.

  • "The Holy Spirit sent this experience for me."

As this year has been a struggle for me in my new assignment, I feel as if Holy Spirit sent Kristin FOR ME! There was so much that she articulated that was on my heart but I did not know how to put it into words or action. My time last week left me with 11 different statements that I am posting next to my desk as I make may plans for the young people in my parish next year.
